My Love Affair with Shells
My designs begin with the sea. Since I was a little girl I have been enchanted by seashells. To me they are glimmering gifts from the ocean, each one a masterpiece shaped by nature and time. No two ever alike, just like the women who wear our jewellery. Every shell I use is handpicked, for its beauty, shape, colour. I spend endless hours scouring the globe, searching for the perfect blush of pink, or rarest sun-washed orange. Each shell carries the spirit of the sea and the story of its journey.
Shells aren’t just beautiful - they're ancient. Long before coins existed, seashells like cowries were used as currency across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands. They’ve adorned queens, warriors, and sacred artifacts for thousands of years. Scientifically, shells are made of calcium carbonate, secreted by marine mollusks, and their colours come from natural pigments and environmental conditions - sunlight, diet, even the temperature of the water.
For me, a shell is more than a decoration.. it's a relic, a whisper from the ocean, and a celebration of feminine strength and individuality. That’s why they lie at the heart of nearly everything I create.
